CPI plea to PWG
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JULY 3. The CPI has urged the People's War Group of
naxalites not to issue any threats to CPI candidates contesting
the Panchayat elections in agency areas of Visakhapatnam
district. The CPI said one CPI candidate received a death threat
from the local PWG unit, and this was ``indeed sad, because this
only helps landlords and other anti-people sections.'' The CPI
said the PWG could appeal to people to boycott elections, but
threats and harassment shows lack of support to their line of
thinking.
In another statement, the CPI cautioned the Chief Minister, Mr N.
Chandrababu Naidu, that many factionists had been elected
unopposed to Mandal Parishad and Zilla Parishad territorial
constituencies in Kurnool district. ``The call of the Chief
Minister to women to defeat bad people, even if they were
nominated by the TDP, cannot be implemented if they are elected
unanimously,'' the CPI said.
