By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 3. "Embolisation", a new treatment technique which can stop the bleeding without removing the uterus, has been developed by the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology.

Developed by the department of Radiology of the SCTIMST, the patients who undergo the new treatment technique can leave the hospital within eight to 10 hours. The treatment can be used in women with excessive bleeding due to fibroids in the uterus.

According to the SCTIMST, the treatment technique has been successfully administered in 10 patients in the last four months.

Post Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) is dreaded and potentially fatal complication following even normal childbirth. The only effective treatment available now is the removal of the uterus in order to save the life of the woman.
