Elaborate bandobust for panchayat polls

HYDERABAD, JULY 10. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the
police authorities for peaceful conduct of the ZPTC and MPTC
elections being held in two phases on July 12 and 15. Besides the
bandobust at 48,298 polling stations in 1095 mandals, movement of
the police force in mobile parties, deployment of striking force
and special striking force at strategic places and movement of
senior police officers for supervision are being taken care of.
There will be 4814 mobile parties besides 1122 striking forces
and 466 special striking forces. In all, 4426 villages have been
identified as hyper sensitive, 6625 as sensitive and 385 as
inaccessible villages, the Director-General of Police, Mr. H. J.
Dora, said in a press release.
All officers deployed will be connected with wireless equipment
to enable them to reach the trouble spots quickly. All the
districts are connected to the main control room in the DGP
office, which has a teleprinter communication network and high
band voice communication.
Vehicle-checking is also to be done and persons with bad
antecedents, moving from one place to another with lethal weapons
will be taken into custody. Check-posts have been set up to check
movement of vehicles.
Altogether, about 63,863 civil policemen, 16,275 armed forces,
8785 APSP personnel, 3045 CRPF personnel, 10,428 home guards are
being deployed. In addition, 5 TRPF companies from Tamil Nadu, 4
KRPF companies from Karnataka, 5 MSRPF companies from Maharashtra
and 2 ORPF companies from Orissa would be on duty.
The first phase of polling would cover Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam,
West Godavari, Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor, Mahabubnagar, Ranga
Reddy, Nizamabad, Warangal and Khammam districts while the second
phase would cover Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam,
Cuddapah, Anantapur, Kurnool, Nalgonda, Medak, Karimnagar and
Adilabad.
The DGP appealed to people to cooperate with the police in
conducting the polls peacefully.
