CMC poll: Workers of candidates clash

BANGALORE, JULY 10. Supporters of various political parties and independent candidates in the city municipal council elections, clashed in at least half a dozen places on Monday night after the counting ended and results were declared. At least 25 persons were injured in these clashes, the police said.

The police said seven persons were seriously injured when a group of BJP supporters ransacked the Congress office at MICO Layout and assaulted that party's supporters following allegations of malpractice in the victory of a BJP candidate in a ward of Bommasandra CMC. Four of the seven injured were identified as Swaroopkumar, Raja, Chand Khan and Thyagaraja. The assailants were identified as Ravi, Gopi, Jagadish, Manju and Mahesh.

In another incident, there were at least five clashes in different places in Rajagopalanagar Police Station limits between the supporters of the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress and the BJP workers and supporters of an independent after the counting for Dasarahalli CMC was completed.

At least 15 persons were injured in these clashes. Two of the injured, identified as Suresh, a BJP supporter, and Swamy, a supporter of an independent candidate, have been admitted to private hospitals, according to police.
