Woman, children yet to be traced
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 10. The search for a 26-year-old woman
who jumped off the Karamana bridge into the swollen river with
her two children on Monday evening was yet to yield any result,
police said.
In what police suspect to be a case of suicide, Nabeezath, a
resident of Ottavila, had jumped of the Karamana bridge with her
two children, Isnu (2) and Nuhu (4) at around 4-30 p.m. on
Monday.
The Fire force and police personnel assisted by local swimmers
had searched the breadth and length of the river in the vicinity
of bridge for the bodies of the mother and children.
The search continued throughout Tuesday even as local people
raised a ruckus over the reported rupture of a dragnet which was
spread downstream to prevent the bodies from being washed towards
the sea in the strong monsoon currents.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and
Corporation Councillor, Mr. Poonthura Siraj, has asked the
authorities to seek the help of Navvy divers to scour the river
bed.
