Select scrips drive Sensex up
MUMBAI, JULY 10. Select old economy heavyweights rallied smartly
aiding the Sensex to gain 37 points at close on the Bombay Stock
Exchange on fresh buying support from operators.
Infosys Technologies, which announced better than expected first
quarter financial results today, however, suffered a moderate
setback on selling pressure at the fag end.
Well supported by an upsurge in Hindustan Lever, Reliance, Telco,
Tisco, Grasim, ITC and L&T, the BSE sensitive index rallied to
the day high of 3340.88 before closing at 3328.27 against
yesterday's close of 3290.81, a net rise of 37.46 points or 1.14
per cent. The BSE-100 index also rose by 15.80 points to 1563.56
from the previous close of 1547.76.
The Sensex would have been still stronger if the key it
heavyweight Infosys had not recorded unexpected losses due to
squaring up of positions created in the morning session.
