CBI seeks to prosecute Laloo in another case

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA, JULY 10. The CBI has set the ball rolling to prosecute the former Chief Minister and RJD President, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, in yet another conspiracy angle case of the fodder scam having its jurisdiction in Jharkhand.

The CBI has forwarded the draft chargesheet pertaining to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 37.6 crores from the Chaibasa treasury during 1992-93 to the Governor, Mr. V. C. Pandey, for his sanction to file a case before the Special CBI Court at Ranchi and proceed with the prosecution of altogether 74 accused, including two deceased.

The above mentioned case, RC 67A-96, will be the fifth case covering the conspiracy aspect of the fodder scam to be filed against Mr. Yadav and the second one which the investigating agency intends to prosecute at Ranchi, the State capital of Jharkhand. Besides, Mr. Yadav is facing trial in the disproportionate Assets (DA) case, an offshoot of the fodder scam case, along with his wife and Chief Minister, Mrs. Rabri Devi.

While Mr. Yadav has obtained bail in three conspiracy cases and the DA case, the Supreme Court has stayed the execution of the arrest warrant that the Ranchi designated court had issued against Mr. Yadav in connection with the case, RC 47A-96, pertaining to excess withdrawals from the Doranda treasury, till July 23 when it intends to hear the case.

Significantly, the CBI had filed a partial chargesheet at Ranchi excluding those against whom it was yet to obtain the necessary permission for prosecuting them. The case had gained importance as it had been filed allegedly in haste amidst the dissident activities within the RJD to topple the Rabri Devi government. The RJD chief had defeated the dissident move though.
