Dr. Joshi to examine Sachin's foot again
MUMBAI, JULY 13. Sachin Tendulkar will have his right foot
examined again, after ten days, by the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed adviser, Dr. Anant Joshi. An
orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine expert, Dr. Joshi had a
first look at the injured part of his foot earlier this week.
India's coach John Wright revealed through an e-mail on Friday
that `the problem with Sachin's right foot is an inflammation of
the sesimoid bone' and that he would require three weeks rest.
Dr. Joshi confirmed Wright' and the Indian team physio Andrew
Leipus' opinion saying: ``in common man's language it's the
inflammation of the ball of the great or big toe.''
``The ball of the great or big toe is a weight bearing one; it
bears 70 per cent of the weight. The pressure is more on the ball
of the great toe when the batsman takes off for a run. While
attempting a run, Tendulkar heard a sound of something snapping
and felt severe pain. It was one of the two bones of the ball of
the great toe,'' explained Dr. Joshi.
Tendulkar has informed the BCCI that he would like to leave for
Sri Lanka on July 31 by which time he is likely to be fit.
``Since it's the weight bearing ball of the great toe, it takes a
longer time to heal. But it's not a major injury,'' said Dr.
Joshi.
