Casuals all the way
AGRA, JULY 15. The Vajpayee-Musharraf summit was held in a
`casual' atmosphere, at least in terms of the attires of the two
delegations, especially that worn by the Pakistan President.
``Since it is being treated as a `retreat', the leaders are in
casuals'', a PMO official said.
It came as a surprise when the Pakistani President, Gen. Pervez
Musharraf, stepped out of his limousine in an open-necked cream
coloured shirt and black trousers to be received by Prime
Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, clad in a dhoti, kurta and
sleeveless jacket.
The General, who arrived yesterday wearing a Sherwani, changed to
suits during the course of the day, looked the most casual of
them all as he clasped Mr. Vajpayee's hand, his face breaking
into a smile.
While Gen. Musharraf and Mr. Vajpayee shook hands twice, the
Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Sattar, hugged the Home
Minister, L. K. Advani, in another show of warmth.
While Mr. Advani, the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant
Singh, and the Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, were in
usual working clothes, the Commerce Minister, Mr. Murasoli Maran,
was in a safari suit.
