Maid hangs herself to death

BANGALORE, JULY 15. Mystery shrouds the death of a 17-year-old
maid who committed suicide by hanging herself at her employer's
house in Tilaknagar Police limits on Saturday night.
Police gave the name of the maid as Sowbhagya (17). She was
working at the house of Mr. K.Ramesh, a businessman, located at
4th Cross, T Block, Jayanagar.
When Mr. Ramesh's family had gone out to a relative's house in
Banashankari on Saturday evening, Sowbhagya, who was alone at the
house, latched the doors from inside and attempted to set herself
on fire.
Later, she hanged her self with a rope from the ceiling. The
incident came to light when Mr. Ramesh's family returned home at
7.30 p.m., police said.
The cause for the suicide is not known. The Tilaknagar Police
have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
Arrested
The Shankarapuram Police arrested Chandrashekar, alias Shekar, of
Shravanabelagola in Hassan District who had allegedly stolen nine
vans in the City.
Police said that Chandrashekar who was an auto-electrician by
profession, used to steal cars and abandon them after taking away
the carburetors, dynamos and other accessories.
In all, automobile spares worth Rs.2.50 lakhs have been recovered
from him.
The accused had stolen the vans from Hanumanthanagar, Kempegowda
Nagar, Rajajinagar, Seshadripuram, Vayalikaval, Ulsoor Gate and
Subramanyanagar police station limits in the City.
While some of the stolen vans had been traced and handed over to
their owners earlier, a few more had been recovered with
Chandrashekar's arrest, police said.
The accused was chased and caught on the Bull Temple Road on
Thursday when he did not stop the van while police were checking
the vehicles.
Raid
The J.P.Nagar Police raided a house in J.P.Nagar 1st Phase, 32nd
Main, and arrested six persons, including five women, on a charge
of immoral trafficking.
Police said that Rs.50,000 in cash was seized from the house.
Investigations have revealed that the woman running the brothel,
who did not have ``right source of living,'' possessed Rs.4.50
lakhs in her bank account and Rs.2.80 lakhs had been found in a
bank account held by her mother.
Gamblers held
The J.P.Nagar Police raided a gambling den and arrested six
persons. A sum of Rs.2,960 was seized from the accused. Police
have registered a case.
