Sailing expedition by NCC cadets today

PONDICHERRY, JULY 15. A batch of thirty cadets, attached to the l
(P) Naval Unit of NCC and 5 (TN) Naval Unit NCC Cuddalore, will
take up an ocean sailing expedition from Pondicherry to
Kodiakkarai from tomorrow.
The 12-day expedition, which would cover a total distance of 436
kms up and down, would be flagged off (to and fro) by the Tourism
and Education Minister, Mr. A.V. Subramanian, at the Old Port
here.
A communication from the NCC Directorate said the expedition
would be held under the banner `Sagar Vihar'.
The expedition would be taken up in two 27-ft whaler boats and
the aim of it is to develop a spirit of adventure and to
inculcate team spirit among the cadets.
It is part of the Prime Minister's Republic Day Banner 2002.
Commodore J.P. Abraham, Deputy Director General NCC Directorate
(TN, Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar), is to supervise the
expedition.
The cadets are from the colleges in Pondicherry, Mahe, Karaikal,
Cuddalore and Porayar.
Extensive training has been given to them in handling boats,
navigation, communication and emergency drill in Chunnambar and
at Devanampattinam.
The team would halt at Cuddalore, Porto Novo, Palayar,
Tranquebar, Ngapattinam, Thopputhurai and Kodiakkarai during
onward and return trips.
The Chief Minister would receive the cadets back on July 27.
