IT WAS dubbed the `comprehensive contest of beauty with brains and personality with proper attitude and aptitude'. Hold it. Do not jump the gun and arrive at some conclusions. No, a very emphatic one at that, this was not the Miss Universe or Miss World contest. This was a preview of `Deccan Queen Contest'.

The event -- straight from the untiring stable of Country Club -- had the club's beauty queens hitting the ramp. And they just did what they were adept at! They smiled (did they ever stop doing that?!) and sashayed to wow a small and apathetic gathering at the Qutb Shahi banquet hall on Friday evening.

Eight contestants, winners and runners-up of various Country Club pageants held earlier in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam, competed in three categories. After several rounds, a panel of judges (did anyone notice a judge missing from his seat?) announced its decision. Neelam walked away with the crown of Miss Best Catwalk, Ritu Makhija smiled her way to Miss Beautiful Smile prize and Sharmili won Miss Aqua Queen crown.

There was more. Models presented a sequence `Carol- the life beneath,' directed by Imran Khan, the fashion guru and city's only professional choreographer. The compere used the show to apprise the gathering of club's chief Rajeev Reddy's grand plans, ambitions and dreams.

And in the end... what a `stimulating' show it was!
