V.V.Bhaskar to head State police

BANGALORE, JULY 25. The State Government on Wednesday appointed
Mr. V.V.Bhaskar, an IPS officer of the 1964 batch, the new
Director-General and Inspector-General of Police.
Mr. Bhaskar, presently Director-General of Police (CoD), will
take over from Dr. K.Sreenivasan, who retires on July 31. Mr.
Bhaskar is likely to have a tenure of 14 months, and will retire
on September 31, 2002.
In a career spanning 36 years, Mr. Bhaskar, 59, has held various
positions in the Government and Police Department. He has served
as the Superintendent of Police of Hassan, Bijapur, Bellary,
Dakshina Kannada and Gulbarga districts. On promotion as Deputy
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Bhaskar was in charge of the
Western and Southern ranges. He was the first Police Commissioner
of Mysore City and was instrumental in setting up a
Commissionerate there.
In the last three years as the Director-General of Police (CoD),
he has led and guided the investigation teams that probed the
sensational bomb blasts at churches in South India as well as the
murder of the Karwar MLA, Vasanth Asnotikar.
In recognition of his services, he was awarded the President's
Police Medal for meritorious and distinguished service.
