Stocks suffer modest setback
MUMBAI, JULY 25. Equities suffered a moderate setback pushing the
Sensex down by about 33 points in lacklustre activity on the
Bombay Stock Exchange due to persistent selling pressure from
operators and investors coupled with offerings by foreign
institutional investors.
After opening weak at 3307.16, the BSE sensitive index tended to
move upwards rising to the day's high of 3338.22. However, it
reacted again to close at 3301.97 against yesterday's close of
3335.08, netting a loss of 33.11 points.The BSE-100 eased by
15.85 points to 1544 from 1559.85.
Despite an announcement of higher-than-expected second quarter
results by the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) major Hindustan
Lever, which prompted a temporary mild rally at early stages,
FIIs were reportedly sellers in Sterlite Optical besides several
second-line technology counters.
