Indo-Nepal trade treaty discussed
KATHMANDU, AUG. 5. India today raised the issue of increasing
imports of vanaspati, acrylic yarn and zinc oxide from Nepal at
the secretary-level trade talks between the two countries and it
was agreed to continue consultations to address the issue.
At the meeting of an India inter-governmental committee on trade
and transit that concluded today, India also agreed to waive
excise duty on fuel supplied to Nepalese aircraft in India.
Discussions were also held on the provisions of the 1986 India-
Nepal treaty of trade, and it was decided to increase the pace of
implementation of its provisions.
Nepal asked India to waive the premium on the leased properties
at Kolkata port, set up lab-testing facilities at Raxaul and
Gorakhpur for foodstuffs imported from Nepal, resolve the concern
of Indian joint venture industries and improve facilities at
major transit points between the two countries.
