Mann to oppose hanging of Rajiv assassins

By our Staff Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, AUG. 5. The president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and MP, Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann, has said that his party would oppose the attempt by the present Tamil Nadu Government to carry out the execution of those who had been condemned to death for assassinating the former Prime Minister, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi.

Talking to `The Hindu,' Mr. Mann said that while his party was morally and ethically opposed to awarding capital punishment, it had been brought to his notice that succumbing to the pressures of the Congress leadership, the present AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu would hang the convicted persons on September 18.
