RJD plans stir for Sinha's removal

By K. Balchand

PATNA, AUG. 8. The ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal(RJD) today threatened to stage a `dharna' in Delhi on August 21 if the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, did not show the Union Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, the door for the UTI scam.

The RJD president, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, said the Prime Minister should follow the precedence set by Jawaharlal Nehru who sought the resignation of his Finance Minister, T.T. Krishnamachari, in the wake of the Karim Chagla report which underlined the political responsibility for the dubious investments made by the LIC in 1956.

The RJD would take the matter to the people's court as it was their hard-earned money which had been swindled. It was the responsibility of the Minister and the Finance Department to oversee the financial management of the public sector undertakings, which they had failed to shoulder. Mr. Yadav called for a joint action by the Opposition parties and invited leaders of all major parties to address the rally which would be attended by all MPs, MLAs and Ministers of the RJD.
