KC canal breached
By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, AUG. 8. The Kurnool-Cuddapah (KC) canal breached near
Vinayak Ghat close to Chanakyapuri colony in the town in the
early hours of Wednesday. According to reports, the canal
breached as the level suddenly went up due to rise in the water
level in the river at Sunkesula.
Water was released to KC canal a few days ago mainly to meet the
drinking water needs of Kurnool town and other dependent
villages. The flow, which was around 460 cusecs, suddenly crossed
1000 cusecs resulting in the breach.
The water from the whole flowed into the Hundri river, a
kilometre away, and joined the Tungabhadra river.
On learning about the breach, the irrigation authorities, led by
the Superintending Engineer, Mr. R. C. Balasubramanyam Raju,
launched breach-filling operations. The canal water inundated the
residential areas nearby.
The breach would be closed by Thursday and normal flow would be
ensured, according to the irrigation authorities.
