Police forcibly entered our house, says Stalin's wife

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, AUG. 8. An enquiry by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) into the alleged ``police excesses'' at the residence of the Mayor, Mr. M.K. Stalin, here on June 30 began today, with statements filed by three persons, including his wife.

After hearing arguments by the complainant and the respondents, the full Bench consisting of Mr. (Justice) K. Swamidurai, Mr. S. Sambandham and Dr. M. Sushila Raj, had on July 30 held maintainable the Mayor's complaint. It directed the complainant to file supporting affidavits within a week.

Accordingly, the statements of Mrs. Durgadevi Stalin, Mr. S. Venkatesan, driver of the Mayor, and Mr. Mohananandan, an assistant in the camp office, were filed on their behalf.

In her statement, the Mayor's wife alleged that the police despite having been told that her husband was not present and that they could come in the morning, forcibly entered the house and behaved in a high-handed manner.

In his complaint, Mr. Stalin had cited as respondents the Home Secretary, the Director-General of Police, the DIG, CB- CID and the city Police Commissioner. Copies of the statements were given to the counsel for respondents for their reply. The case was adjourned to August 20.
