Two GH workers suspended

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, AUG. 8. The Government General Hospital authorities said they have suspended two hospital workers for allegedly demanding money from patients for their services.

Based on specific complaints, the authorities cracked down on touts and hospital workers running such rackets in the Out Patient block of the hospital. Two male sanitary workers, against whom specific complaints were received, were placed under suspension on Wednesday.

The Health Minister, Mr. S. Semmalai, inspected the out patient block, the cardiology, neurology and casualty blocks, AIDS ward and CT and MRI scan wings of the hospital on Wednesday.

A Government press release said he instructed the hospital authorities to provide display board in the out-patient block, and tighten security at the entry gate to prevent the movement of unauthorised persons and touts inside the hospital premises. Voluntary workers should be engaged to guide the out-patients, the instruction read.

The Vigilance Officer was instructed to monitor the functions of the department and the officials have been asked to clear the extra rush so as to avoid long hours of wait for patients. He also asked for additional security personnel for the OP block.
