Agonising search for missing 8-year old

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 8. Their agony seems to have no end. An autorickshaw driver's family, which has spent eight painful months in search of their missing eight-year-old son, has never stopped praying for his return.

The sad story of the family of Mr. R.Soudaryarajan began on December 8 last year, when their eldest son, Jeevankumar, did not return home after he left school at 3.30 p.m. He was a second standard student in the Shyama Vidya Shala in Kalappa Block, Srirampuram here. He was last seen by his friends crossing a stormwater drain near his house. He would cross the drain everyday using the steps and get back home on his own.

Mr. Soundaryarajan had taken food for his son and given it to him in the school at 11 a.m. little realising that he would not see his son again.

Since then, Mr. Soundaryarajan, who drives a hired autorickshaw, has left no stone unturned in search of his son. Soon after Jeevan went missing, his father went all over the City with policemen, searching every shelter for children, but drew a blank. From fortune-tellers to pasting of pamphlets on buses going in different directions, including those outside the State, he has tried everything possible under the sun. Yet, Jeevankumar remains untraced.

He says the Srirampuram police too had made efforts to locate the boy but to no avail. Tears come to the father's eyes when he says that his son who was born in February, was not there on his birthday this year. On that day, all that the family did was to pray for the child's well-being.

Those who have any information about the boy can inform the police or contact Mr. Soundaryarajan at No. 23, 3rd Cross, 9th Main, Kalappa Block, Srirampuram.
