A glimpse of the Vedas
THE THEMATIC cultural shows produced annually by the Padma
Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools always have quality that
few can compete with. Yet, what set the recent 44th anniversary
cultural fiesta (that had Vedic Heritage as the concept) apart,
was that it made one sit up and realise the significance and
universality of the Vedas. The greatness of which is being buried
in the quagmire of superstition and ignorance. It was heritage
rejuvenated.
On the one hand the programme enlightened the audience on the
sanctity of numbers through a musical piece that very ingeniously
incorporated the stories of Siva, Ashtalakshmi, the five
elements, the six seasons, the seven notes and so on.
On the other it was ``The Light of Asia'' and Shakespeare's
``Taming of the Shrew'' that were fused to lend a touch of
classicism and wit. Juxtaposed with the Buddha was Narasimha
avatar and R.K. Narayan's encounter with a musician. But the
latter was too lengthy to be humorous.
Patriotism was brought in, in the form of the final piece,
``Vande Mataram''.
It was celebration time at PSBB, because it also marked the
silver jubilee of its K.K. Nagar school.
The chief guest of the evening remarked that it is imperative
that each one of us has thorough knowledge of his roots.
That evening the staff and students of the PSBB schools helped
one have a glimpse of the same by making the audience traverse
through the Vedas for a while.
