S. Korea sets up title clash with Germany
KUALA LUMPUR, AUG. 10. India was outsmarted by a more agile South
Korean side in the last league match of the Azlan Shah hockey
tournament here today to end the hopes of a top four finish.
The 0-3 loss, its fourth in six matches, meant India finished
with just four points. On the other hand, the win enabled South
Korea set up a title clash with Germany, which defeated England
2-1 earlier in the day.
Korea finished second in the table with 13 points, five behind
leader Germany which won all its league matches.
India will now play for the 5-6 place with its likely opponents
being England. Australia and Malaysia will play the last league
match later today.
India, whose only win came against England yesterday, was no
match to the fast-paced game of the Koreans who dominated the
proceedings today.
India got at least three field openings in each of the halves,
but was unable to control their shots. In contrast, the South
Koreans lapped up its chances with Sin Seok-Kyo scoring through a
penalty corner in the 32nd minute and Song Seung-Tae and Yeo
Woon-Kon banging in the 37th and 54th minutes respectively.
