SINGAPORE, AUG. 15. A website (www.millenniumindiashow.com) was
launched today by Singapore's Minister without Portfolio, Mr. Lim
Boon Heng, to provide details for a week of India-related events
to be held here from October 9-16.
Mr. Lim inaugurated the website at a reception hosted by the
Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr. Prabhat Shukla, on the
occasion of Independence Day today. The week-long events in
October termed ``Celebrating India-Singapore 2001'' will coincide
with a visit by the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, to
Singapore.
The celebration will include a series of exhibitions, business
seminars and cultural events, including an India- Singapore
Technology Expo., to provide a network for interaction for
companies. Well-known artistes such as Dr. L. Subramaniam,
Mallika Sarabhai, Shubha Mudgal and Daksha Sheth will be in
Singapore in October. Also scheduled is a performance by Indian
Ocean, a popular fusion band. An Indian food festival is part of
the schedule of events. In a message posted on the website, the
Indian High Commissioner to Singapore said: ``Over the years,
India and Singapore have developed linkages on various levels,
moving beyond ties initiated by the convergence of history to
build a multi-faceted relationship.
``There is constant and ongoing interaction between our two
countries in the political, strategic, economic and cultural
areas.''
