Tight vigil at checkposts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 21. The district administration has taken steps to ensure tight vigil at the border checkposts to prevent smuggling of illicit liquor from Tamil Nadu during the Onam festival season.

An official pressnote here today quoting the District Collector, Mr. K.R. Jyothilal, said specially trained squads had been deployed for round-the-clock monitoring at the Amaravila, Mavilakadavu, Aattupuram, Mandapathinkadavu, Perumpazhuthur, Kallikadu, Perumkadavila and Tile Factory checkposts. Night patrolling and checking of vehicles have also been intensified. A strike force headed by an Assistant Excise Commissioner has been constituted for the purpose.

The pressnote said taluk-level control rooms headed by the Excise Circle Inspectors had been set up. The telephone numbers of these control rooms are as follows: Neyyatinkara- 222380, Thiruvananthapuram- 472747, 476529, Nedumangad- 802227, Chirayinkeezhu- 644070, Thiruvananthapuram City- 312418, district control room - 473149.

The Collector directed the public to pass on any information about abkari law violations to the control rooms. He also requested citizens to desist from misleading the authorities.
