G.K. Moopanar passes away
The Tamil Maanila Congress president, Mr. G.K. Moopanar, a veteran Congressman and long-time associate of Kamaraj, died here early this morning at a private hospital. He was 70.

The President today led the nation in condoling the death of the Tamil Maanila Congress president, Mr. G.K. Moopanar, in Chennai, early this morning. The Vice- President, the Prime Minister, several Union Ministers, political leaders and both the Houses of Parliament joined in paying homage to the departed leader.

Musharraf blames it on Advani
For the first time since the Agra Summit one and half months ago, the Pakistan military ruler and President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, has virtually accused the Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani, of blocking the joint declaration between India and Pakistan.

Taking to the veil under threat
Kashmiri women seem to have finally given in to the threat of the shadowy militant outfit, Lashkar-e-Jabbar, as many of them have started donning the veil in adherence to a ``strict Islamic dress code.'' The ``deadline'' set by the outfit, despite criticism from various quarters including the Mirwaiz (head priest) of Kashmir, ends on Friday.

LPG prices may go up
The Petroleum Minister, Mr. Ram Naik, today warned that prices of kerosene and LPG may have to be revised to reduce the subsidy within the current fiscal.
