Answering right

"Vishaka, after whom the city of Vishakapatnam is named is the god of ...." The first question of the preliminary round of the Vishakapatnam edition of the Young World Quiz 2001stumped almost all the 550 participants. But they rallied to answer the remaining 24. Finally six teams of the 275 assembled at the Visakha Music and Dance Academy entered the finals.

Of the six rounds in the finals, one round was devoted to that city - "Vizag Vibes". Enthusiastic students tumbled over themselves to answer those questions that stumped those on the stage. The team from Timpany School which had been leading from the first found itself upstaged in the buzzer round ("Stop Press") by the Delhi Public School (DPS).

Finally Rahul Singh and Sushoban Nayak from DPS made it to the finals to be held in Chennai on November 24. The prize for the best team name (Bomb bin Terrladen) went to Vishaka Valley School.

A shower of gifts descended on all the finalists of the Vishakapatnam edition of the Young World Quiz 2001.

Regional sponsors opened up their purses to the extent of Rs. 83,184. All the children were given snacks by Nilgiris. Gifts from Hotel Grand Bay, Titan, Pantaloon, MVS Silver Palace, Bhomraj Distributors, Fashion Centre, Digjam, Hirawat, Marvel Vacations, Nalanda Educational Institution, Hotel Green Park, Jyothi Book Depot, Bata, Taj Residency, ICICI Bank Ltd., Sri Corporate, Eastern Art Museum, Vimal, Selvel, Jupiter Honda, Sri Sivarama Sweets saw the children staggering out with their arms fully loaded.

Apart from these, there were gifts from the title sponsors Eveready and the other national sponsors Nutrine, Fourth R, Dishnet DSL, Coke and Hercules Cycles.
