Hero Honda sales up 37 p.c.

NEW DELHI, OCT. 1. Hero Honda Motors, India's largest motorcycle maker, has reported a 37.2 per cent rise in its sales at 1.18 lakh motorcycles in September against 86,214 units in the same month last year.

The September sales were also up by 9.5 per cent as compared to 1.08 lakh motorcycles sold in August this year, a company spokesperson told PTI.

Cumulative sales (April-September 2001-02) increased by 32.7 per cent to 6.36 lakh motorcycles from 4.79 lakh motorcycles in the year-ago period.

The company's highest selling motorcycle, the 100cc Splendor and the recently launched model Passion comprise about 80 per cent of its total sales.The company also manufactures Joy, CD100, CD100SS, Street Smart and CBZ motorcycle models.

Bajaj Auto

Bajaj Auto has registered a 34.5 per cent growth in its motorcycle sales for the six month period ended September 2001 at 2.72 lakh units against 2.02 lakh units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Also, for the second time in the current year, the company sold more than 50,000 motorcycles in a month when it sold 53,142 units in September against 44,052 units in the corresponding period of the previous year, a growth of 20.6 per cent.

The company's total sales of two wheelers during the first half of 2001-02 increased by 1.6 per cent to 5.60 lakh units against 5.51 lakh units. In September, total two wheeler sales were up by 8.9 per cent at 95,876 units against 88,043 units.

Sales of geared scooters in general declined by 8.8 per cent in the first half of 2001-02. But the company's sales were up by 18.9 per cent at 33,311 units against 27,169 units.
