Abu Salem arrested?
MUMBAI, OCT. 24. Abu Salem, prime accused in the Gulshan Kumar
murder case and close associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim,
has been arrested in a Gulf country today, according to reports
received here.
The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal, who
also holds the Home portfolio, told PTI here that the State Home
Department had received information about Salem's arrest but
official confirmation was still awaited.Mr. Bhujbal
said he had already informed the Central agencies about the
reports of Salem's arrest. ``I am waiting for a word of
confirmation from the Central agencies as it is the job of the
Centre to pursue the matter,'' he added.
According to official sources, the Dubai police has requested
India to forward the finger prints of Abu Salem so that they
could establish his identity. The sources said the request of the
Dubai police was being given top priority.
``If at all Salem has been arrested, then we will make all out
efforts for his extradition,'' Mr. Bhujbal added. Abu Salem is
wanted in several cases of murder and extortion registered by the
Mumbai police. A team of CBI officials had recently visited Dubai
regarding Salem's extradition.
