Indian men slide further
CHENNAI, OCT. 24. In the 10th position overnight in a field of 18
teams after three rounds, the Indian Open squad slipped to the
12th slot at the end of six rounds on Tuesday in the World bridge
championship for the Bermuda Bowl in Paris.
India beat Poland by 16-14 victory points (VPs) in the fourth
round, but lost to USA-2 (11-19) and Australia (14-16) to end the
day with 86 VPs out of a possible 150.
Egypt and USA-2 share the top spot with 119 VPs each. Poland
(114), Italy (112), France (105), USA-1 (98), Brazil (97), Japan
(96), Norway (92) and Israel (90) took the next eight slots.
On the other hand, the Indian women scored two wins in three
matches to improve their position to the 16th with 62 VPs out of
a possible 150 at the end of six rounds.
On Tuesday, India beat Japan 16-14, lost to England 14-16 but
came back strongly to overcome Austria 19-11.
The top 10 slots in the eves section are held by France (123),
China (119), England (111), South Africa (111), Austria (109),
USA-1 (108), Israel (105), USA-2 (92), Germany (90) and Italy
(81).
