Civil servants becoming endangered species

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 29. The former Director General of Police, Mr. P.R. Chandran, has said that the civil servant has become an endangered species.

Inaugurating a seminar on vocational training organised by the Rotary Club of Thiruvananthapuram here today, he said that the civil service has become an insecure and frustrating job over the years. With the advent of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation, job opportunities and career prospects are brighter in the private sector, he said.

The Internet has brought the whole world to your home. Details about new courses and job opportunities could be surfed out from it. The youth should be committed to their profession. However, there is no sure formula for success. One has to take a decision which is quite often a compromise, he added.

Mr. B.S. Warrier, columnist, explained the various academic opportunities for higher studies and job openings for the engineering graduates and the ways of preparing for an interview.

The president of the Rotary Club of Trivandrum, Mr. P. Prasanth, and the director of vocational services in Rotary, Mr. B.V. Krishnakumar, were among those who spoke.
