Woman alleges harassment by MLA
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 30. The State committee of the Kerala
Mahila Sangham has urged the Chief Minister to take appropriate
action against the Congress MLA, Mr. K. Achuthan, on the basis of
a complaint given by a woman voter of his constituency alleging
harassment.
Addressing a press conference here today, the president of the
Sangham, Prof. Meenakshi Thampan, said the Sangham had received a
complaint from Ms. Rani Vijayan, resident of Venkiteswar Colony
at Ambikapuram in Palakkad stating that Mr. Achuthan had tried to
harass her.
Ms. Vijayan had stated that she was receiving threatening
telephone calls during odd hours. She had been forced to shift
her residence from Palakkad to Coimbatore due to harassment from
anti-social elements. Though a complaint was given at the
Palakkad Town North police station in August, no action had been
taken.
Ms. Thampan said Ms. Vijayan was ready to give a statement about
the incidents if she was given a personal hearing by the Chief
Minister. The Sangham had also filed a complaint with the State
Women's Commission in this connection.
