GlaxosmithKline Q3 PAT up 18 p.c.
Glaxosmithkline Pharmaceuticals, formerly Glaxo India, has
reported a 17.9 per cent rise in its net profit at Rs. 18.08
crores for the third quarter ended September 30, 2001, against
Rs. 15.33 crores in the same period last year.
Net sales were Rs. 304.88 crores against Rs. 236.10 crores. Total
income also increased to Rs. 312.43 crores from Rs. 243.30
crores.
The merger of Smithkline Beecham Pharmaceuticals with Glaxo has
been approved and consequently the company's name stands changed
to Glaxo Smithkline Pharmaceuticals.
Since the approval is effective January 1, 2001, the results of
Glaxo Smithkline Pharmaceuticals for the period January 1, 2001
to September 30, 2001 and July 1, 2001 to September 30, 2001
include those of Smithkline Beecham Pharmaceuticals India for the
same periods, and hence are not comparable.
Burroughs Wellcome
Burroughs Wellcome India has reported a 20.25 per cent rise in
net profit at Rs. 6.65 crores for the third quarter ended
September 30, 2001, against Rs. Rs. 5.53 crores in the same
period of the previous fiscal.
Net sales have increased to Rs. 54.17 crores from Rs. 52.42
crores. The total income stood at Rs. 57.72 crores in the
reporting quarter compared to Rs. 54.87 crores.
Colour-Chem
Colour-Chem, a Clariant AG subsidiary, has reported a 5.22 per
cent drop in its net profit at Rs. 2.90 crores for the second
quarter ended September 2001, against Rs. 3.06 crores in the same
period of the previous fiscal.
The worldwide economic slowdown adversely impacted the global
business of Clariant's pigments and additives division, resulting
in substantially lower export orders for pigments.
Net sales for the reporting quarter were down at Rs. 85.19 crores
against Rs. 91.76 crores. For the half year ended September 30,
2001 the company's net profit stood at Rs. 7.58 crores against
Rs. 7.46 crores.
Vanavil Dyes
Vanavil Dyes and Chemicals, a subsidiary of Colour-Chem, has
reported a 26.6 per cent decline in net profit at Rs. 67.95 lakhs
in the second quarter ended September 2001 against Rs. 92.57
lakhs in the same period last fiscal.
Net sales for the period under review also declined to Rs. 12.09
crores from Rs. 16.05 crores in July-September 2000.
