Rupee edges up

MUMBAI, NOV. 2. The rupee ended a notch higher against the U.S. currency today on stray dollar sales in yet another day of extremely thin and lethargic trade at the interbank foreign exchange market.

Closing a shade better at Rs. 47.9850/9900 a dollar from Thursday's finish of Rs. 47.9900/9950, the rupee was confined to a very narrow band of 47.98 and 48 in listless dealings. It opened at Rs. 47.99/48.

The rupee-dollar outright spot dealings remained quiet and range- bound due to lack of market-moving factors. Scattered dollar demand from public-sector banks in early trade was absorbed by adequate local supplies, dealers said.
