Nigerian crowned Miss World
SUN CITY (SOUTH AFRICA), NOV. 17. Miss Nigeria has become the
first African to win the Miss World title when she took the crown
and her seat on a zebra skin lined throne.
Wearing a lime green, body hugging gown, Ms. Agbani Darego, 18,
waved to a cheering crowd as she took her victory walk yesterday
in Sun City, a glitzy resort in the heart of South Africa's bush
country.
Ms. Darego, her hair piled into a top knot, said when she looked
in the mirror she saw ``a young girl who wants to be a computer
scientist as well as a super model.'' Organisers said about one
billion television viewers may have watched the extravaganza,
hosted by Jerry Springer of the American tabloid talk show fame.
