Veerappan sends cassette
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, NOV. 17. Forest brigand, Veerappan, has sent an audio
cassette to a Tamil journalist here, offering to negotiate his
`surrender'.
His condition is that the special forces of Tamil Nadu and
Karnataka must first withdraw from the forest.
In a seven-minute recording sent to Mr. A. S. Mani, Editor of
`Netrikkan', Veerappan invited him to meet him with any
confidant.
Veerappan had offered to surrender earlier but his conditions
were rejected outright by the Tamil Nadu Government.
Now, he has indicated that he is ready to `negotiate' on the
terms of surrender though he makes it clear that there will be
`some demands'.
In the tape, he was critical of his previous journalist-friend,
Mr. Nakkeeran Gopal. Mr. Mani told the media after releasing the
cassette today that he had informed the Chief Minister of the
message and was awaiting a response.
