Sarosh, Ayub triumph
CHENNAI, DEC. 9. Sarosh Hataria's wait for the Formula Asia championship to be held in Philippines in June next ended at the Irrungattukottai track, near here, on Sunday, when he won the FISSME category of the JK Tyre National racing championship. Ayub Khan emerged the National champion in the Esteem section.
In the fifth and final leg the champions, however, did not have it easy. In fact, Sarosh finished second in lap 10 and third in lap 15. With Sarosh leading his nearest competitor Madan by 13 points after lap 10, it was foregone conclusion as to who would emerge the winner.
The 21 year-old champion driver finished third in lap 15 race to clinch the championship.
``It's what I have been waiting for'', said the 21 year- old Sarosh, even as he was congratulated by friends and well- wishers.
Gaurav Dalal impressed by finishing first in both the races in the Formula Maruthi section.
The Esteem car race too had its share of thrills. Everybody expected leader Ayub to claim the honours for his consistent performance in the event. And he drove a near perfect race.
Kamlesh Patel lead throughout lap 10 to finish first. But the fight for the title centered around the fourth leg champion Radha Selvaraj and Ayub Khan, the difference between the two being five points at the end of lap 10 race.
Ayub stamped his class by romping home comfortably in lap 15 to emerge champion.
``I have no words for it. All I can say is thank you everybody,'' said Ayub, who received a brand new Maruthi Esteem.
Cine actress Jyotika distributed the prizes.
