Celebrations unlimited
CHALKING OUT a timetable for celebrations is rather an onerous task.
Life for many is all about having fun - anytime, any day. So with over a fortnight still to go for Christmas, people are already looking forward to ringing-in the New Year.
Meeting their aspirations are commercial establishments with an array of special offers and the hospitality industry with a variety of programmes.
To make its presence felt in the busy festival season, the Hotel Le Royal Meridien organised a Christmas tree lighting ceremony last Friday and also unveiled its plans for the season ahead. Among those present on the occasion was the Most Rev. Dr. Arul Das James, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore.
Decked up in attractive colours and lights was the hotel, especially its stately lobby that played host to the Christmas tree. The most interesting feature of the function, however, was the participation of children who danced to the tunes of Merry Christmas.
As part of its celebrations, the hotel has set up a ginger bread house designed as a snow-clad dwelling in one corner of the huge lobby. It was an added attraction to the guests and visitors to the hotel. Christmas carols were also sung.
Coming ahead is the Christmas pool party of children with the affable Santa Claus on December 15, which will be followed by the Green Royal Meridien Walkathon at 7-30 a.m. the next day. The hotel lobby will come alive again on December 22 to Live Christmas Carols singing for two days between 5 and 7 in the evening.
For those looking around for some tongue tingling delicacies, December 24 should be reserved for being at The Largest Buffet in Town at Cilantro, the restaurant that dishes out exotic tastes from various regions, at the hotel.
If Christmas is here, can New Year be far behind? The Hotel's Ballroom, which could accommodate upto 1,200 guests, will be ringing in the New Year with its Old Years Night. It would be a gala evening on the eve of 2001 with lots of fun and surprises, the hotel promises.
