`Handshake, my toughest decision'

ISLAMABAD, FEB. 1. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has said his dramatic handshake with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, at the recent SAARC Summit in Kathmandu was one of the toughest decisions taken by him in recent times.

Gen. Musharraf revealed this in an interview to the Japanese television network when asked about the toughest decisions he had taken recently.

Identifying three decisions, Gen. Musharraf said the other two were Pakistan joining the international coalition against terrorism after the September 11 attacks in the U.S. and the crackdown against terrorist groups in Pakistan.

The Pakistan President also said India and Pakistan require a lot of courage to initiate bilateral dialogue to resolve the disputes between the two countries.

He also reiterated that Kashmiris fighting in Jammu and Kashmir were freedom fighters. The U.N. resolutions of 1948 had extended these rights to Kashmiris, he said.
