`Jayalalithaa will address Budget session as CM'
By Our Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL, FEB. 1. The Budget session of the Assembly will commence by mid-March, soon after the Andipatti byelection, the Speaker, Kalimuthu, said here today.

Talking to reporters, he claimed that people in the State and in Andipatti wanted Jayalalithaa to become the Chief Minister again. ``She will be the Chief Minister when the Budget session begins.''

On the absence of the DMK chief, M. Karunanidhi, at the Assembly sessions, the Speaker said that as per law, a member who absented himself for three consecutive meetings was liable to be suspended provided his signature was not affixed in the register. Although not all members would take part in the debate, their participation could only be known if they attended the Assembly or entered their names in the register and went about their chores.

The State Government was not averse to implementing the code of conduct as discussed during the Speakers conference and was keen on ensuring that the Assembly functioned atleast 90 days a year.
