FIIs net buyers in equities

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in equities at Rs. 423.3 crores ($88.3 million) while mutual funds (MFs) netted sales of Rs. 434.73 crores in month of January 2002.
FIIs and MFs, both, were net purchasers in debt at Rs. 276.1 crores ($ 57.6 million) and Rs. 2,090.12 crores respectively in the first month of new calendar year, according to the data available with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Foreign funds were net buyers in equities on 10 trading days and netted purchases in debt instruments on 14 days. MFs were more active in debt market and remained net buyers for 23 trading days.
On January 7, FIIs bought equities of Rs. 577.7 crores and offloaded to the extent of Rs. 267.4 crores, thus making net purchases of Rs. 310.3 crores ($64.8 million), the highest for the month, followed by Rs. 250.5 crores ($52.3) on the next day.
MFs netted their highest sales in equities at Rs. 109.86 crores on January 8, when they bought and sold instruments worth Rs. 53.05 crores and Rs. 162.91 crores respectively.
In debt, foreign funds abstained from any activity on four trading days.
MFs bought and sold debt instruments worth Rs. 339.61 crores and Rs. 92.37 crores respectively, thus turning net investors at Rs. 247.24 crores on January 15.
They also netted heavy purchases of Rs. 202.54 crores on the following day. _ PTI
