Karzai to visit Pak. today
By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD, FEB. 7. The Chairman of the Afghan Interim Administration, Hamid Karzai, is arriving here tomorrow for a day-long visit to discuss bilateral co-operation and matters of mutual interest between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This is the first visit of Mr. Karzai since he took over the reins of the war-ravaged country in December last and Islamabad is understandably excited. The visit is in response to the invitation extended by the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, during a Pakistan delegation's visit to Kabul for the inauguration ceremony of the Interim Authority.

Mr. Karzai will be accompanied by a high-power delegation that includes Cabinet Ministers as well as Governors of Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces. He is scheduled to return to Kabul in the evening.

Mr. Karzai's decision to visit Pakistan at this juncture is seen as an effort on his part to establish a rapport with the Musharraf Government and send out a signal that the new set-up in Afghanistan is keen on revival of ties with Islamabad.
