MOSCOW, FEB. 12. Russian and Indian energy officials signed a $1.5 billion contract today for the delivery of two Russian reactors for a new Indian nuclear power plant, Itar-Tass reported. The two 1,000-megawatt reactors would be delivered to the Koodankulum nuclear power plant within the next five years, the news agency said, quoting the Russian Deputy Energy Minister, Yevgeny Reshetnikov. Some 300 Russian companies will take part in constructing the reactors, which have been the subject of off-and-on negotiations for more than 10 years. Moscow and New Delhi initially agreed on the plant's construction some 13 years ago, but the project was abandoned following the Soviet Union's collapse. The deal was resurrected when the former Russian President, Boris Yeltsin, visited India in 1998. The plant is to supply power to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
