Bahrain now a kingdom

MANAMA, FEB. 14. Bahrain will hold elections to restore Parliament on October 24, the head of state, Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al- Khalifa, announced today, proclaiming the Gulf Archipelago a kingdom and himself king.

The announcement by the hitherto Emir came on the first anniversary of the endorsement by referendum of a national charter for constitutional reform. - AFP
