Laxman confident of riding out Tehelka storm

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR FEB. 22. The former president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rajya Sabha member, Bangaru Laxman, has said he is hopeful of being exonerated of the "corruption charges'' levelled against him, following the expose by "Tehelka dot com,'' once the commission of inquiry completes the investigation process.

Replying to a query on whether he could overcome the stigma of the Tehelka expose, at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Laxman said the commission's work was getting delayed and the commission had sought another extension. "I am confident that I will come out unscathed. However, it is only a question of time.'' He termed the Tehelka tapes a result of a conspiracy hatched to defame him personally and the BJP as a political party.

Asked if he would be "re-instated with all honours'' in the coveted post of the BJP in the event of his being declared innocent in the Tehelka case, Mr. Laxman said: "I don't know.''
