Rs 64.31 cr. for better AIR, DD coverage in N-E

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 23. With a view to helping All India Radio and Doordarshan fight back the dominance of channels from neighbouring countries over the North-East region, the Finance Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 64.31 crores to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for this calendar year.

The amount -- fixed by the Expenditure Finance Committee -- is part of the North-East package that had been cleared by the Union Cabinet about three-and-a-half months back for increasing AIR and Doordarshan coverage in the region.

At that time, the Cabinet had given the nod for an advanced sanction of Rs. 22 crores to begin implementing the package in this financial year itself.
