Strike: AITUC plea to A.K. Antony

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI FEB. 23 . The All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today asked the Kerala Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, to take ``urgent'' steps to end the indefinite strike by the State Government employees.

In a letter to Mr. Antony, the AITUC president, J. Chittaranjan, suggested the initiation of discussions with the leaders of the striking employees to bring out a reasonable settlement with the service organisations.

Pointing out that the strike was against the curtailment of benefits enjoyed by the employees for long, Mr. Chittaranjan has written to Mr. Antony that he did not have any moral right to criticise the employees for having resorted to the strike.

A large number of the employees and teachers are on strike for the past 18 days pressing for restoration of the benefits taken away under the austerity measures initiated by the Government.
