Letters to the Editor
Sir, The BJP and its leaders have been saying that they are not against Muslims. But they have never condemned or dissociated themselves from outfits which have engineered and operationalised anti-Muslim and anti-Christian depredations, the latest being the anti-Christian outrage in Mysore. Their activities and pronouncements are repugnant to the ideals embodied in the Constitution and patently out of sync with the traditions of the freedom movement and the culture of inclusivist politics it engendered. In fact, the RSS and its progeny are founded with a view to annulling the cosmopolitanness of the Indian culture with its many religions, many histories and many ethnicities. The country has made Atal Behari Vajpayee Prime Minister to uphold the Constitution in letter and in spirit and continue the ideals and culture of the freedom movement. It will be unfortunate if he supports and strengthens elements which are trying hard to undermine the multicultural unity of India by the methods of vigilante goondaism and identity politics.
