Letters to the Editor
Sir, Harish Khare's article `From January 12 to March 12' (Feb. 20) is exactly the need of the hour. This is an audacious, thought- provoking, and inspiring article, reflecting the clear thoughts and greater intentions of the writer. Yes, the secular fabric of our countryhas been blatantly torn beyond any repair by the so- called gatekeepers and watchdogs of Indian culture and heritage. The VHPs, RSSs, JEMs, and LETs have evoked enough communal passion, hatred and apathy. It is time the educated and intellectual class of India shed their inhibitions, come out of their research schools and convenient and comfortable workplaces. If the VHP is beyond any law, any court in carrying out its mission, what difference does it make from a military coup which takes law in its hands? If the obviously illegal can be so publicly, prudently pre-planned and successfully executed, it is a shame on every intellectual who watches this passively.
