Chandrika greets Jayalalithaa

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, March 4. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, today expressed hope that her country and Tamil Nadu could ``work together'' to enhance the prosperity of the people.

Greeting the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on her assuming office as Chief Minister, she said that Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu had a shared history.

``The cultural, social and religious ties between our peoples are old and strong. In modern times, with the availability of better travel facilities, the volume of traffic between Chennai and Colombo has increased considerably thus further strengthening the links between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka,'' she said

Wishing Ms. Jayalalithaa success during her tenure, Ms. Kumaratunga said the verdict of the people of Andipatti was a clear indication of their acceptance of Ms. Jayalalithaa's political leadership.
